Looking up North Alley towards the Capitol in 1909.

Two black women sit on a stoop while a black man and child stand in the alley. The City Beautiful reforms seem to have reached the ward by this time as the alley and sidewalk are paved and are free of trash.

Another view of North Alley as seen from the intersection of Fifth, looking towards the Capitol.

On the corner sits 514 Fifth, a store advertising Ivory Soap, Buster Brown Bread, Duke's Smoking Tobacco, and several kinds of plug tobacco. F. Brande ran this establishment in 1902. (See Grocers)
