THEN: View of Tanners Avenue from near the Walnut Street intersection, looking towards South Street. Tanners was a historic African-American street that had existed since the early 1800s long before the 8th Ward was incorporated into the city.

NOW: Looking down what would have been Tanners Avenue from Walnut Street. The slim black pole at center belongs to a Pennsylvania State Historical marker about Tanners Alley.
